There are so many products on the market for undereye concealers and so I thought it would be useful to write a post on my favourite products in this area.  This particular post accompanies my recent article on tips for undereye concealer, which you can see here.

Maybelline has been my go-to brand for undereye concealers over the years, as I just love their products in this area.  I’ve tried out undereye concealers from other brands but the Maybelline products are the ones I come back to time and time again.  You can see other products which are my Timeless Favourites from various brands here.

If you are on the look-out for a great undereye concealer, then I would highly recommend checking out these products and seeing if they work for you too!

Maybelline Concealers

Maybelline has a range of different concealers catered to the undereye area and the rest of the face.  They have concealers in liquid form, pencil form and in palettes, so there are a range of options to choose from.

I’ll be featuring three of the options from Maybelline in this post.  If you have tried their other concealers, then I would love to know what you think about them.  Please let me know in the comments section!

Best Illuminating Concealer: Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer Pen (£7.99)

Claims: The Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer is marketed as an illuminating concealer which makes skin look brighter and more radiant.  The concealer is also touted as having concealing pigments which conceal.

Background to the product: The Dream Lumi Touch Concealer comes in a tube with a twist up base and a brush at the top to dispense the product (photos below).  The formula is very lightweight and is easy to blend under the eyes.  This product is illuminating and brightening in nature, with a satin-like sheen in terms of finish.

Shade range: There are three shades available in the UK (Ivory, Nude, Sand) and I use shade 20 Ivory.  I don’t think there is a great range of shades, even though the product itself is fantastic.  It would be great if Maybelline could expand their shade range!

Why I love this product: I have been using this particular concealer on my undereye area for years.  The Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer is fantastic for brightening the undereye area and making eyes look more awake.  This product also conceals dark shadows under the eyes.  You can use the concealer to highlight any other areas of the face you wish to brighten.  You can either apply the product directly from the brush to your undereye area/face or you can dab product from the brush onto your finger and then apply it to your chosen area(s).

Worth noting: Whilst this product does conceal, it offers more light to medium coverage, rather than full coverage.  I would recommend a different concealer (like the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer mentioned below) if you have dark shadows and require a fuller level of coverage under the eyes.

Best All-Round Concealer: Maybelline Fit Me Concealer (£5.99)

Claims: The Maybelline Fit Me Concealer is marketed as being a creamy, matte, medium coverage product which can be used to hide dark circles, correct imperfections and cover blemishes.

Background to the product: The Maybelline Fit Me Concealer comes in a tube with a lid that screws on and off.  The lid has a long applicator with a firm, doe foot style sponge which can be used to apply the product under the eyes or the face.  The formula feels light-weight but has a slightly thicker consistency and greater level of coverage than the Dream Lumi concealer.  The concealer has a matte, satin like finish.

Shade range: There are 12 shades available in the Fit Me Concealer range, from 05 Ivory to 60 Cocoa.  The shade range seems to cater to light, medium and dark skintones but I’m curious to know whether the shades work for people with a range of skin tones.  I use shade 20 Sand in this concealer.

Why I love this product: I remember there was a time when I kept on seeing this particular concealer in YouTube videos and thought it was worth a try.  I’m really glad I got it, as it really is an amazing, all-round product.  This concealer has a smooth texture, feels easy to blend and has an excellent level of coverage.  I think this product is amazing for both under the eyes and on the rest of the face.  It’s not often that I find a ‘do-it-all’ concealer, so I’m really glad to find one that reduces the amount of products I use, particularly for travelling.  The matte, satin finish to this concealer means that it covers blemishes effectively, whilst also concealing undereye shadows.

Worth Noting: The satin, matte texture means that this concealer doesn’t fully brighten or illuminate the undereye area.  If you are looking for a product to illuminate and brighten under your eyes, then I would recommend looking for a concealer which is marketed as ‘illuminating’ or ‘brightening’ in nature.

Instant Anti-Age The Eraser Eye Perfect and Cover Concealer (£8.99)

Note: This particular concealer is one that I like but not a favourite of mine (more details on that below).  However, I’ve chosen to include it in the post as this product is a cult favourite for many YouTubers and make-up bloggers.  Not everyone likes the same products, so it’s worth checking it out, in case you like it!

Claims: The Instant Anti-Age Concealer range is marketed as being able to cover dark circles, blemishes, redness and fine lines.  The formula is meant to be hydrating and semi-matte, with extreme coverage.

Background to the product: The concealer comes in a long, cylindrical shaped, clear plastic tube with a small lid.  The reddish-purple section just under the lid clicks round to release the product and the concealer comes through on the sponge.  The concealer has a texture somewhere in-between the Dream Lumi Touch Concealer and the Fit Me concealer.  The Instant Anti-Age Concealer isn’t as thin as the former but it isn’t quite as opaque or matte as the latter.  The concealer is marketed as having a semi-matte finish and I think that is a realistic representation of how it appears to me in practice.  The product does dry down to a matte-like finish but there is still a satin slant to it which lends to the brightening effect.  The concealer can be used to brighten under the eyes, cover under eye circles and conceal blemishes on the face.  I’ve mainly used the concealer under the eyes, as I find it has more of a brightening effect on me.

Shade range: The concealer comes in 12 shades, from 00 Ivory to 13 Cocoa.  The shade range seems to cater to light, medium and dark skintones but I’m curious to know whether the shades work for people with a range of skin.  I use shade Light in the concealer.

Why people love this product: I have seen this concealer recommended – and used – regularly by several make-up bloggers and YouTubers.  The product offers a good balance between illuminating and effectively concealing the undereye area, so I can see why it is a hit with so many people.  I think some people really like the sponge applicator for applying the product as well.  The tube design is pretty good, as you can easily see how much product you have left.

Why I’m not so keen on this product: I’m not so keen on the packaging for this product, as I find it can get very messy in the top sponge section.  I also don’t really like the feel of the sponge at the top and prefer not to apply the concealer directly from the applicator.  The Maybelline site states that the sponge applicator tip is anti-bacterial but I find it slightly off-putting using something under my eyes when I can’t wash it and it gets covered in product.  I find the texture a little sticky and thicker in texture, which I don’t like so much when I am applying it to my face.  It does dry in and I don’t feel it on my face after application but I’m not keen on how it feels beforehand.  I would say, however, that it does offer a good balance between illuminating and concealing the undereye area so it is definitely worth a look if you want something catered to both  of those aspects.

Worth Noting: I think that the semi-matte, satin-like finish to this concealer makes it more effective as an undereye concealer than one which works all over the face.  I would love to know, though, if this product works for you on the rest of your face.

Stockists

Maybelline products can be found in various stores across the UK, including Boots, Superdrug, Tesco.  The brand is also available from several online retailers, such as Look Fantasic, Feel Unique and Amazon.  Boots and Superdrug often have 3 for 2 or buy 1 get 1 half price offers, so it’s worth looking out for those deals if you want to save some money.

These three concealers are my three top picks for the undereye area.  Let me know in the comments section if you have tried out these products and what you think of them.  I’d love to hear about any other concealers which you would recommend for the undereye area!
