Today, I am going to introduce you to a recent find of mine: Maybelline Colour Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencil in 410 Fab Orange. The Maybelline Lip Pencils are a great all-in-one product, as you can use them to both line and colour the lips. They are also handbag friendly and cost only £4.99, making them a fantastic option if you are on the go and looking for a quick (and cheap) way of wearing lip colour.

The lip pencil comes in a traditional, pencil format with a lid. It is much thicker and chubbier than a traditional lip pencil, which makes it easy to fill in the lips. It is still thin enough, though, to precisely line the lips. The end of the pencils are also colour coded, which make them easy to spot and pick out of your make-up collection or handbag.
The lip pencil itself is smooth and glides on to the lips easily. I was unsure before using the pencil if it would look really dry on the lips but I am happy to say that it does not at all!! The colour is demi-matte, in that it is slightly matte but also has a slight satin sheen to it when applied to the lips. I like the finish, in that it looks very classic but still keeps the lips looking subtle and satiny.
I love the dual-purpose nature of this product, in that it allows me to really define and colour my lips, all in one fell swoop. I like to line around the edges of my lips and then fill them in. The beauty of this product is that you can then go back over the edges if you want to give extra precision to the lip line. Using the same product to line – and fill in – the lips also means that you don’t have any mis-match in colour between the liner and lip colour.
The product can be easily sharpened using a chubby pencil sharpener if you find the point starts to dull down.
I purchased the shade in 410 Fab Orange. I love the vibrancy of this shade – perfect for wearing with neutral , gold, grey or even muted eyeshadow combinations.
There are various other shades available in this formulation, ranging from deeper reds, burgundies, hot pinks to plums, lighter pinks and nudes.
The Maybelline Velvet Lip Pencils cost £4.99 and are available from Boots, Superdrug and various other retailers. Boots and Superdrug also often have Maybelline (along with other make-up) on ‘3 for 2’ or buy ‘1 get 1 half price’ deals, so you can save even more extra cash if you keep an eye on the offers.
