Some time ago, I posted a sneak peek of the NYX Away We Glow Eyeshadow Palette in ‘Hooked on Glow’ (you can see the post here).  The palette really caught my eye due to the beautiful mix of peach, gold and brown shades in various finishes and tones.

I’ve been using the palette for quite a while now and think it is amazing! The range of colours, finishes and tones makes the palette extremely versatile, whether you want to create easy daily looks or more complex combinations. The eyeshadows are beautifully pigmented, smooth and last well on the lids.  Win-win for me!

You can find more posts on the site featuring NYX make-up here.  You can also search for make-up posts on the site featuring various brands under ‘Faves, Hauls & Brands’/’Brands’ on the site menu bar.

NYX ‘Away We Glow’ Eyeshadow Palettes

The ‘Away We Glow’ collection includes two eyeshadow palettes.  Hooked on Glow (the palette featured here) contains warm peaches, golds and browns.  The other palette – Love Beam – includes warm and cool peaches, browns and plums.

I liked the look of both palettes but ended up choosing Hooked on Glow as I particularly liked the shimmery golds and deep bronze tones.

Palette Packaging

The eyeshadows come packaged in a rectangular, sturdy gold and black plastic case.  The palette feels relatively lightweight but good quality.

The front of the palette has the brand name, range name (Away We Glow) and palette contents.  The lid states that the palette contains 10 eyeshadows with a net weight of 0.03oz/1.0g.  The eyeshadows are visible through the clear lid on top.

The back of the palette provides the palette shade name (Hooked on Glow) and ingredients.

There is a chart on the back top right part of the palette giving the eyeshadow numbers.  The actual eyeshadows don’t have any numbers underneath them, which means you have to refer to the back of the palette for these.  It’s helpful having the numbered chart but it would be useful to have them printed underneath the eyeshadows as well, particularly if you want to provide shade details for tutorials.

Palette Contents

The palette has a clear lid which flips up to reveal the eyeshadows in the lower section.

The eyeshadows are square and large enough to fit in various sizes of eyeshadow brushes.

It’s worth noting that each eyeshadow has a net weight of 1.0g, compared to 1.5g for single MAC eyeshadows (£14 pots, £10 for pans)  and 1.5g for single Urban Decay eyeshadows (£15).  Having 10 eyeshadows at 1.0g each means that you get a reasonable amount of eyeshadow for a relatively affordable price (£18).  Several of the shades in the palette are good dupes for MAC eyeshadows (more on that below), making this palette very appealing if you like certain MAC shades but want to save some money.

Eyeshadow Shades, Finishes and Tones

The palette contains 10 eyeshadow shades, ranging from neutral staples like beige and brown and pepped up neutrals, such as peach, gold and amber.

There is a great mix of classic matte neutral colours alongside brighter metallic golds, ambers and bronzes in the palette.  I think the range of colours makes this palette a great option for anyone looking for a one-stop shop to cover daily looks, special occasions and night-time glam.

The eyeshadows are beautifully pigmented, smooth and last well on the lids.  I found the shades to be very easy to blend and buildable as well.

The range of finishes (metallic, shimmer, matte) and tones (light, medium, dark) makes the palette extremely versatile, as you can use the palette for simple looks, to shape the eyes or more complex combinations.  For example, the lighter satin or shimmer shades are great for adding brightness (e.g. no 4 and no 6), whilst the medium and deeper matte shades (e.g. nos. 5, 7, 10) can be used as liners or to add depth to the eyes.

Dupes for MAC Eyeshadows

Some of the shades remind me of MAC eyeshadows in my collection, which makes this palette a good option if you like MAC eyeshadows but want to save some money.  The dupes I’ve found are as follows:

Shade 3 (top row, third shade from left, metallic coppery-amber) reminds me of MAC Amber Lights.

Shade 5 (top row at the end, medium matte chocolate-brown) looks a lot like MAC Folie.

Shade 7 (bottom row, second shade from left, medium matte orangey-brown) looks like MAC Texture but slightly browner.

Shade 8 (bottom row, third shade from left, deep metallic antique brown) reminds me of MAC Antiqued but a little lighter.

Shade 10 (bottom row, end shade, deep matte charcoal brown) reminds me of MAC Embark – one of my favourite shades for creating depth in the outer v or using as an eyeliner.
