EOTD: Greens, Blues and Gold l (Using NYX Swear By It Palette)

For this look, I combined greens, blues and golds from the NYX Swear By It Eyeshadow Palette.  I also added in a little bit of hot pink along the lower lashline to give the look some extra contrast.  I’ve given the look breakdown below, including products used on the eyes, cheeks and lips.

FOTD: Yellow and Coral (Using NYX Swear By It Palette)

I created this look using the NYX Swear By It Eyeshadow Palette (you can see my post, see photos and view swatches of this palette here) some time ago.  My look was inspired by a look I saw Allie Glines create on YouTube.  She based her version on a look created by someone else too (I’m not sure who, unfortunately).

I used similar tones to Allie Glines on the eyes but I chose a coral lipstick instead of the red which she used.  I’m a huge fan of MAC Toying Around Lipstick, which is a beautiful, Amplified finish, medium bright coral shade and thought it would work well with the tones on the eyes.  This particular lipstick shade was limited edition but I think other brands will have similar shades.

I’m planning to post more of the looks I have created using this palette on the site, so stay tuned! You can find looks using this palette on the site here.

FOTD: Subtle Plum Eyes and Bold Lips (Using NYX Swear By It Palette)

I really enjoy using the NYX Swear By It Eyeshadow Palette (you can see my post, see photos and view swatches here) but for some reason, I never got round to posting looks I created using the palette.

This particular look uses plum shades from the palette to create some subtle definition on the eyes.  I chose to keep the eyes quite pared down as I wanted to wear this beautiful deep plum lipstick, MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Cocomotion.  I must have forgotten to write down the exact shades I used from the palette to create this look as I can’t see them in my folder (sorry!) but I remember using a combination of the plum shades in the first column (top down).

I’m planning to post more of the looks I have created using this palette on the site, so stay tuned! You can find looks using this palette on the site here.

I have been enjoying creating different looks using the Makeup Revolution The Emily Edit The Wants Palette  (you can see my post on the palette here) since I purchased the palette in September 2018.  I thought it would be fun to post some look ideas I have come up with using the palette.  The lighting is a bit different in some of the photos as the weather was very changeable each day, but you can still get some look ideas from the photos.

I have given details on how to re-create the combination under each look item, along with suggestions for cheek and lip products to go with each look.

If you would like some look ideas using particular shades in the palette, or certain types of looks, let me know! I’m really enjoying playing about with it so stay tuned for more combination ideas!

NYX Swear By It Eyeshadow Palette

I purchased the new NYX Swear By It Eyeshadow Palette at the end of January 2019 (you can see my sneak peek post here) and since then, I been using it regularly for my eyeshadow looks.  The palette includes 40 eyeshadows in a wide spectrum of colours, from neutrals, brights and smoky hues.  I’m planning on posting some look combinations using the palette soon, so keep an eye out for these!

I think this palette is a fantastic buy for anyone looking to create a wide variety of looks and have an incredible choice over shades.  You can use the palette for creating simple or complex looks, natural combinations, smoky eyes, adding the odd pop of colour or go all out with colour.

One point worth mentioning is that whilst there is a huge choice in shades, there are some small gaps in colours within the palette (more details in the rest of the post).  It’s not a deal breaker for me but if you’re looking for a palette that has ALL colour families (particularly cool-toned purples and light, icy blues) then this might not be the right fit for you.

African Grey Parrot (Using NYX Swear By IT Eyeshadow Palette)

African Grey Parrot Look

African Grey Parrot Look

The first look in my Bird Series (you can read more about the series here) is based around the African Grey Parrot.  I’ve had exposure to this beautiful bird over the years and thought it would be a fun place to start the series.

The African Grey Parrot (see photo below) has a striking colour scheme of grey, white and black, with bright scarlet tail feathers at the back.  For this look, I incorporated the greys, white and red on the lid, along with black liner on the upper lashline.  I also used a soft red lipstick on the lips to mimic the vivid red tail feathers.

You can view full face shots, along with the cheek and lip colours I used, in this post.

Tip: I’m using the NYX Swear By IT Eyeshadow Palette, along with a couple of shades from the Kat Von D Saint and Sinner Palette, for this look.  You can view posts on the site featuring the NYX Palette here and the Kat Von D palette here.  You can also view other eyeshadow combinations I have created using the NYX Swear By It Eyeshadow Palette here and the Kat Von D Palette here.

New Bird Looks Series!

I was looking for some make-up look inspiration and thought it would be really fun to start a bird inspired series.  I have a real love for birds, as my family has kept different types of birds over the years.  Birds come in such a wide range of colours, sizes and shapes, so there will be lots to choose from for my looks.  I think the variety will make for some really interesting and fun make-up looks!

For each combination, I’ll be providing close-up photos of the eyes and full face shots so you can see how the look comes together.  The cheek and lip colours will be listed for each combination so you can get ideas for how to complement the looks.  I’ll also include a photo of the bird so you can see the inspiration behind each look.

I will be using a range of eyeshadow palettes and eyeshadow singles for this series.  I had originally planned to use the new NYX Swear By IT Eyeshadow Palette for the whole series, as it contains an incredible array of colours.  However, since starting the series, I’ve found that there are shades that I can’t find in the palette as the bird colour schemes have been so diverse.  It has been more effective using whichever palette or eyeshadow single(s) fit with a particular look.

Let me know if there are any particular birds you would love to see in a look! I am planning on creating a variety of different looks, so happy to hear any of your suggestions!

You can find all the posts in the series here or under Eyeshadow Combo Ideas/Bird Inspired Series on the menu bar.

Note: As referenced above, the photos used in this post were taken from Pexels (https://www.pexels.com/search/bird/).  Pexels provides free photos for commercial and non-commercial use.

I hope you enjoy the series!

Rainbow Series: Roundup!

This post provides an overview of all of the looks included in my recent Rainbow Series.  The Rainbow Series includes looks based around each of the colours of the rainbow.  You can read about the series and view each of the original individual posts here.

This post provides a short summary of each look and two face photos for each combination.  You can click on the links for each look (under the eye photos above and on the titles for each look below) to view more details on how to re-create that particular look, see more photos and see what cheek and lip products I used.

Tip: I used the Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette for all of the looks but you can substitute in eyeshadows from any brand.  The NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette in ‘Brights’ is a great dupe for the Urban Decay Full Spectrum and cheaper (£16 instead of £43).  You can view the NYX Palette here.

Sneak Peek: New NYX, Bare Minerals and Stila Make-up!

NYX Swear By It Eyeshadow Palette (top), Bare Minerals Gen Nude Blush Trio and Blush Palette (bottom left), Stila Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow (bottom, second to left), Bare Minerals Bare Pro Long Wear Lipsticks (bottom, three to the right)

I purchased some new make-up goodies this week and am super excited to share them with you! I found some great deals online and couldn’t resist picking up these items.

I’m currently trying out the products and would love to hear if there are any you would like to hear about first! That will help me decide what order to work on and post the articles to the site.  I’ve summarised what I purchased below.

I’ve been seeing so many great reviews of the new NYX Swear By It Eyeshadow Palette and couldn’t wait to get it. The palette contains 40 eyeshadows in a variety of shades and finishes.  You can read my full post, view photos and see swatches of the palette here.

I’ve always wanted to try the Bare Minerals Gen Nude Blushers and came across this fantastic set on QVC.  There are three blushers and a brush included in the set, for £26 (plus £3.95 P&P).  I think that is a great price, considering the blushers cost £22 to purchase individually.

I’ve been wanting to try out the Stila Liquid Glitter and Glow Eyeshadows for so long and found a couple of reduced shades on Look Fantastic.  I ordered Sunset Cove to try and am looking forward to trying it out!

Bare Minerals just released their Bare Pro Long Wear Lipsticks and I have been curious to see what they are like.  There are so many beautiful shades that I found it hard to decide which ones to get.  I came across a set of three on QVC UK for £33 (plus £3.95 P&P), which is a great deal as the lipsticks cost £20 individually.

Have you tried any of these products? It would be great to read your thoughts on them.

NYX Away We Glow Eyeshadow Palette in Hooked on Glow

Some time ago, I posted a sneak peek of the NYX Away We Glow Eyeshadow Palette in ‘Hooked on Glow’ (you can see the post here).  The palette really caught my eye due to the beautiful mix of peach, gold and brown shades in various finishes and tones.

I’ve been using the palette for quite a while now and think it is amazing! The range of colours, finishes and tones makes the palette extremely versatile, whether you want to create easy daily looks or more complex combinations. The eyeshadows are beautifully pigmented, smooth and last well on the lids.  Win-win for me!
