Last week, I spent some time browsing the make-up counters in Boots as I really fancied checking out the new Spring time offerings. Boots had a ‘3 for 2’ deal on and I ended up picking up various new make-up items. I got some products from ranges I have tried before and other items which are new to me.
I am planning on writing more detailed posts on each of these items in the coming weeks once I have had a chance to try them out. Look out for posts coming soon!
Bourjois Healthy Mix Powder (£9.99)
I really enjoy using the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation (it gives the skin such a natural, healthy looking glow) and saw the Bourjois Healthy Mix Powder in the promotional display area for Bourjois.
I haven’t tried this face powder before and thought it would be worth seeing if I like it as much as their foundation. I picked shade 01 Vanilla, which is the lightest shade available. The back of the powder states that the product is a “Soft and blendable compact powder – unifies and mattifies for a radiant complexion all day long”.
I find that the foundation fades a little across the day (even with setting powder) and so I am curious to see if it holds up better with the accompanying face powder.
Loreal Color Riche Shine Lipstick in ‘109 Pursue Pretty’ (£8.99)
I already have one of these lipsticks (in 464 Color Hype) and picked up 109 Pursue Pretty, a bright raspberry pink. I just love the feel and the finish of these lipsticks: soft, moisturising and smooth with a glossy sheen. The texture feels so light and refreshing on the lips as well.
One point worth noting is that for some reason, the shades in the UK have completely different names to those in the USA. There are also fewer shades available in the UK (9 instead of 16 in the USA). I’m not sure if there are equivalent shades in the UK to the USA; it’s hard to tell due to the shade range being much smaller. I don’t quite know why Loreal chose to release shades with different names and shade ranges in different countries but it’s worth knowing in case you can’t find these shades where you are from.
Max Factor Colour Elixir Lip Cushion Gloss in ‘020 Splendor Chic’ (£8.99)
I haven’t seen this product before and thought it looked like such a beautiful, easy to wear lip colour. The Colour Elixir Cushions seem like a hybrid between a balm, subtle gloss and lip colour in liquid form.
I picked up 020 Splendor Chic, a soft, pretty rose pink colour. I think this shade will go with so many types of looks and be lovely on days when I just want a subtle wash of colour on my lips.
Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipsticks in 711 Midnight Mauve and 837 Sunbronze (£7.99 each)
When I selected the Colour Elixir Lip Cushion, I ended up browsing the rest of the products in the Max Factor section and picked up two of the Colour Elixir Lipsticks. I have used the Colour Elixir Lipsticks before (I have three other shades) and really love the colour payoff, finish and feel of these on the lips. I think these two shades will be a beautiful addition to my make-up collection.
711 Midnight Mauve (left side of the photo above) is a really pretty cream finish, medium mauve-pink shade with slight cool undertones. It reminds me a little of MAC’s Hot Gossip (one of my all-time favourite MAC shades!) but a little deeper and less pearly in finish. 837 Sunbronze (right side of the photo above) is a pretty cream finish, medium warm rose-bronze shade with slight coppery undertones.
Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara (£7.99)
I used this particular mascara for years and thought it would be interesting to try it out again and see if I still like it. I remember it being an amazing mascara for adding volume, length and curl to my lashes, whilst keeping them well separated and defined.
I wrote a post on this mascara a few years ago (you can read my original post here) so I think I will go back and update it once I have tried out the updated version. The packaging has been updated since I last bought this mascara. I haven’t opened the tube yet or tried it out, so I don’t know whether the formula or brush has been changed as well. It will be fun going back to an old favourite and seeing how it measures up!
So those are the new products I picked up from Boots! I’m planning to write a more detailed post on each of these products, so let me know if there are any which you would like to know about first!
