I recently picked up a few of the Rimmel Wonder Swipe 2 in 1 Liner to Shadows in a 3 for 2 deal and I’ve really been enjoying using them. These products can be used just as their name states; apply them as a liquid eyeliner or blend them out on to the lid for a sparkly eyeshadow look.
I think this product is a great way to experiment with your look, whether you choose to wear it as a bold, metallic liner along your lashline or if you like to smudge it out for a soft, gentle sparkle on the lid. The wide choice in shades (16 on the Rimmel site) also means you can mix it up however you choose.

Packaging
The Rimmel Wonderswipe 2 in 1 Liner to Shadows come in a tube with a black base and a long, tapered lid.
The product is contained inside the smaller black base whilst the long, tapered lid houses the sponge applicator.
The base provides the brand name, product name and product volume (0.058 fl.oz/1.7ml). There is also a note on the base advising users to shake the bottle well before use.
The shade number and shade name are both printed on a white label stuck on the base, just under the product barcode.
Each lid is coloured to match the shade of the liner contained inside. I like this feature, as it makes it easy to find your chosen colour in your make-up kit.
Sponge Applicator Design
The lid has a long, tapered handle and a long, thin, tapered sponge applicator stemming from the lid.
I like the applicator design, as it is easy to vary the thickness of liner when you apply the product to the eyes. Holding the lid straight and applying the liner just from the point yields a thinner line. Holding the lid at a slight angle and applying the liner from the side gives a slightly thicker line.
Product Claims
The official Rimmel website states that the liner is a “First to market hybrid formula” that you can transform with the stroke of a finger”. The site states the the product is “…a bold metallic liner that can be transformed into a sparkly shadow with one swipe”.
The site claims that the formula is “smudge-proof, transfer-proof and touch-proof”. It also says that you should get “Up to 10 hours wear” with the the product. The site says you can layer and combine the formula to create your own looks.
Opacity, Pigment and Blendability
I purchased three shades (more on that below) and find that they generally yield a bold, metallic, opaque coat when applied as eyeliner. Regardless of brand, I normally apply an initial line of liquid liner and then go over it again for full opacity. The same is true for these Rimmel liners; one coat gives a good line and a second evens things out.
The lighter shades I purchased (004 So Savage, a bright metallic golden-amber) and 009 Mega Hottie (a bright metallic pink) applied with an excellent level of opacity and were very easy to even out.
One thing worth mentioning is that the darker shade I purchased (007 Crave Me, a deep metallic blue-violet) was a little streaky upon application and required a little more effort to impart an even coat of colour along the upper lashline. I still got a beautiful effect from shade 007 but it wasn’t effortless like shades 004 and 009. There are a few other darker colours in the collection, so I’m curious to know how they perform in comparison to 007. Let me know if you have tried any of the darker shades and if you have had the same experience!
Each of the shades blends out really easy when worn as an eyeshadow. You simply apply a little to the eye (either along the lashline or over the lid) and blend out gently with a clean finger. The finished effect is very soft and pretty, with a delicate shimmer and sheen. The metallic edge to wearing the product as a liner seems to blend out to become more of a soft sparkle when worn as an eyeshadow.
I love the versatility of this product, as you can wear it just as a liner, an eyeshadow or as both. You can simply sweep the product on along your lashline for a bright, metallic liner or you can blend it out to wear as an eyeshadow. You can also multi-task by blending it out on the lid as an eyeshadow and then applying it along the lashline as a liner. The blended out effect and concentrated liner work beautifully together, as they are from the same colour base. The ability to wear the product in several ways means you can easily – and quickly – change up your look.
Longevity and Removal
I find that this product lasts extremely well on me throughout the day. It sets quickly and does not smudge or transfer during wear. The product looks just as good when I am ready to remove it at the end of the day as on first application.
This product is extremely easy to remove, even though it is long-wearing. I like that I don’t have to tug or rub at the delicate eye area to remove it; it simply wipes away when I use my eye make-up remover. I use the Nivea Daily Essentials Extra Gentle Eye Make-up Remover (I have been using this product for years!) and it removes all of my eye make-up quickly and efffortlessly.
Shades
The Rimmel site states that there are 16 shades available in the range. I’ve only seen a smaller selection of shades in Boots and Superdrug, so it may be that the full range of shades is being released soon. Boots has the full 16 shades on their website but it says that 6 of them (the shades I haven’t seen before) are coming soon. I’m looking forward to seeing more shades when they arrive in store!
I purchased 3 shades to try from the range: 004 So Savage, 009 Mega Hottie and 007 Mega Crave.
004 So Savage is a bright metallic golden-amber. I love this sort of shade is it really brightens the eyes. This shade goes beautifully with neutrals, golds, bronzes and browns. It also offers a gorgeous contrast when worn as an eyeliner alongside purple, green and blue eyeshadow combinations.
009 Mega Hottie is a bright metallic pink. I’ve not worn a pink liner before and thought it would be fun to try it out. I love this shade as it offers a really nice contrast to my brown eyes. You can wear this shade simply along the upper lashline with neutrals, greys or browns. I think it would also look stunning combined with golds, blues and purples.
007 Crave Me is a deep, metallic blue-violet. I really enjoy this sort of shade and think it is particularly flattering on brown eyes. This shade reminds me a lot of Urban Decay Dive Bar Eyeshadow (you can read more about this product here) but in liner form. I think this this shade looks beautiful with neutrals, golds, browns, blues, pinks and purples. I think it would look really interesting with smokey charcoal and black looks as well.
