Kat Von D is a brand that I hadn’t tried until earlier this year when I took a trip to Dubai to meet some friends. I was really excited to see that there was a Kat Von D counter in the Sephora and treated myself to a few products: a concealer (middle in the pic above), a lipstick and two of the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks (left and right in the pic above). I like the concealer and lipstick but I particularly love the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks and so thought it was time for a post!!
Post Alert: I recently also treated myself to the Kat Von D Saint and Sinner Eyeshadow Palette. Loooove this palette so much! You can read more on the palette here and see combination ideas here.
Tube Design
The Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks come in a slimline, long tube. The lids are black with silver design and the ‘KVD’ logo embossed on the top of the lids. The tube containing the lip colour shows the shade through it, which makes it handy for picking out in a make-up bag. The tube is swirled with a black design around the middle and circled in black at the bottom with ‘Kat Von D’. The base of the tube has the product name, shade name and product volume (6.6ml/0.22 fl.oz).
Applicator
The applicator comes in a long, thin sponge-tipped wand housed in the tube lid. The wand has a slight angle to it (sort of hoof shaped) which enables you to get a defined, sharp application around the edges of the mouth, as well as a good all-over application to the lips. I’ve used a few products in slimline tubes where the product squeezes out of the tube at the base of the lid as you close it. I’m really pleased that this product doesn’t suffer from that particular design issue, as the product stays completely (and cleanly) in the tube. No messiness here to clean up!
Formula
The formula itself feels incredibly light-weight and silky on the lips. The formula is saturated enough to provide opaque coverage, whilst also gliding extremely smoothly on to the lips. The Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks dry down to a matte finish which I feel is comfortable on the lips. The texture does show up lip lines a little but I don’t find it to be bothersome.
I’ve worn both shades on their own for a true matte finish, as well as with a little balm patted over the top. The balm gives the lips a little more ‘give’ and slightly more suppleness. It’s worth noting, though, that the lip colour lasts longer when nothing is patted over the top as the balm gives a little more ‘slip’ to the lips.
Shades I Picked Up and Swatches
I picked up the shades ‘Lolita II’ and ‘Mother’.
‘Mother’ is a medium, warm, dusty rosy pink colour (left in photo above). Pink is one of my favourite lip colours to wear as I find it to be flattering with my colouring. This shade is no exception, as I find it to be very brightening and fresh looking on the face. I find that this shade goes with a variety of different eyeshadow looks. So far, I have enjoyed wearing it with pinks, purples, silvers. I’m sure it would look really beautiful with golds, browns and neutral combinations too.
‘Lolita II’ is a medium, warm terracotta-chestnut shade (right in photo above). Brown/chestnut based lip colours generally don’t suit me at all and so I tend to steer clear of them. This particular shade, however, seems to be flattering on me and I really love it for a different type of look. I think the warm peachy, coral, more orangey undertones make it more wearable for me. I particularly like combining this lip colour with green eyeshadow looks. I wore it today with a green and orange combination from the Saints and Sinners palette today and just loved them together.
Stockists and Price
Kat Von D products are now available in the UK from Debenhams and cost £17. The Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are available in 41 different shades, ranging from neutrals, pinks, purples, browns, reds, blues, greens and black I’m curious to try out some more colours.
