For today’s look, I used silver, grey and taupe shades to create a soft and smokey effect on the eyes.  I used the Urban Decay Smoky palette and the brush which comes with it to create the whole eye look.

Hot Product: The Urban Decay Smoky palette contains beautiful beige, gold, brown, grey and black eyeshadows which can be combined to create both smokey or more natural eye looks.  The double-ended brush is also fantastic, making it easy to create beautiful eye looks without having to use lots of different brushes.

For this look, I paired together emerald green and navy eyeshadows to create a ‘jewelled’ effect on the eyes. Flicking out the crease colour elongates the eye and adds an exotic twist.

This look was inspired by the shades I saw in the sky after the sun had set recently.  The colours of muted orange, red and faded blue-grey looked so pretty together and I thought it would be fun to re-create the effect on my eyes.

Face of the Day: Pink Ballerina (Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette)

For this look, I used neutral shades of pink eyeshadow to create a fresh and polished effect on the eyes.  Using pale shimmery pinks on the eyes is a good way to introduce a little colour to your routine without deviating too much from a neutral spectrum.  Pale pinks can also be very brightening on the eyes – perfect for days when you might be feeling a little tired.

Tip: This look is neutral enough that you can pair it with other lip colours.  Plums, burgundies and brighter pinks would add an extra surge of colour to this look and take it from day-time to night-time chic.

This look was inspired when I saw some green olives stuffed with pimento peppers in the supermarket.  I thought the pairing of green with red was interesting and would be a fun combination to try in an eyeshadow look.

Tip: Ideas for combinations can come from all sorts of places! If you are looking for inspiration for eyeshadow colour combinations, look at flowers, birds, chocolate wrappers…anywhere you might see interesting colours.

Eyeshadow Style 3: Contouring With Eyeshadow

Contouring the eye is a classic technique for shaping the eyes and making them look bigger.  I tend to contour my eyes in the majority of looks as I find that it adds depth to the eye and makes them look bigger.

This eyeshadow style generally suits most eye shapes, particularly those with a discernible crease or visible eyelid space.  It is worth trying out contouring to see whether it suits you.  If you have flatter eyelids, then you might have to ‘create’ a crease with eyeshadows to achieve the contouring effect.

This article provides detailed explanations on ‘How to locate the eye contour’, ‘Choosing eyeshadow colours for contouring’ and a step-by-step guide on ‘How to contour the eye with eyeshadow’.  There are also various photos of examples of different to provide some inspiration (click on the links to read more details on each look).

For this look, I used shades of gold, brown and burgundy to create a warm, autumnal effect on the eyes.  This type of look is neutral enough that it can be easily paired with any shade of lipstick, blusher or any outfit.

Tip: Try adding in some black eyeshadow to the outer v if you want to make the look smokier.  You can also add in black liner along the lash lines to create a more defined effect on the eyes.

Pink and Purple Elongated Eye

For this look, I flicked out a dark purple eyeshadow in the outer section of the eye to create an elongated cat eye effect.  Concentrating the rest of the eyeshadows in the lower part of the lid also helped to create a very crisp, defined shape on the eyes.

Tip: Focusing attention on the lower part of the eyelid gives a ‘flash’ of colour when your eyelids flick up and down.
