I’ve been on holiday for the past couple of weeks and so I haven’t posted for a wee while.  To kick things off again now I am back home, here is a bright, colourful look.  For this look, I combined purples with a ‘pop’ of lime green in the inner corners to add a flash of contrasting colour.

For this look, I paired bronze-toned colours on the eyes and cheeks with a hot orange-red lipstick.  I used the ‘Highlighted Look‘ style of eyeshadow application to create this look (click on the link for more information).  This type of look uses a darker shade in the inner/outer lids and a light shade in the middle of the lid.

You can pair other bright lip colours with this type of eye look as well, such as bright corals, deep burgundies and hot pinks.  Alternatively, you can use muted pinks, nudes or light peach lip shades if you prefer a softer look.

For this look, I combined shimmery aqua teal with coral-red and orangey-brown to create a sunset-style eye.  Applying a hot coral-red eyeshadow into the outer v creates a bold flash of colour when the eyes blink. Here’s how to re-create this look:

Using eyeshadows from the same colour family keeps things simple, as you can shape the eye without having to work out how to combine different colours.  This look can be varied by replacing the blue with light, medium and dark eyeshadows from other colour families, such as green (as viewed in the ‘Shades of Green’ look), purple or brown.

Eyeshadow Style 2: Highlighted Look

This post in the ‘Eyeshadow Styles’ series shows you how to create a highlighted effect on the eyes by applying a darker colour to the inner and outer lid and a lighter, shimmery shade to the middle of the eyelid.  This eyeshadow style is particularly flattering if you have almond shaped eyes or flatter eyelids, as it makes the eyes look rounder in shape.

For this look, I used orange eyeshadow alongside greens to add a fun ‘pop’ of contrasting colour.  Adding a different colour to the inner lid is an easy way to add a little something extra to an eyeshadow look.   Here’s how to re-create this look:

For this look, I created a highlighted effect on the eyes by using a darker shade in the inner and outer lids and a light shade in the middle of the lid.  This technique gives the eyes a ’rounder’ effect and is a good way to shape the eyes without having to heavily contour the crease.  Here’s how to re-create this look:

Pairing together colours which are opposite each other on the colour wheel (known as complementary colours) is a good way to make your eyes really stand out.  For this look, I combined purples with a bright primary yellow in the inner lid to create a striking effect on the eyes.

I called this look ‘LA Lakers Inspired’ as my husband said ‘LA Lakers!’ immediately when he saw the look (LA Lakers is an American basketball team, in case you aren’t familiar with the name).

Applying a single colour to the eyelid is a quick way to make your eyes look fresh and polished.  Finishing the look off with a sweep of mascara helps to frame and define the eyes.  This type of look can also be accomplished with just one brush (or sponge applicator, making it the simplest to create.  Perfect for when you are pushed for time or just want an easy way to make your eyes look brighter, more awake and defined! For this look, I combined various shades of green eyeshadow to create a graded effect on the eyes.  Using eyeshadows from the same colour family keeps things simple, as you can shape the eye without having to work out how to combine different colours.  This look can be varied by replacing the green with light, medium and dark eyeshadows from other colour families, such as blue, purple or brown.
