Products for Cleaning Make-up Brushes

Part One and Part Two of this series explained the various types of eyeshadow brushes and how to choose brushes which may best suit your needs.

This article aims to introduce you to some products for cleaning make-up brushes.  Cleaning make-up brushes is perhaps not the most exciting of activities – there is always something more fun to do!  However, cleaning your brushes regularly helps to ensure that they are sanitary and do not gather germs which are then transferred to the face, eyes or lips.  Product particles (whether powder, gel or cream) can also become gathered in the bristles over time, making brushes apply make-up less effectively.

This look is bright and colourful and reminds me of the shades in peacock feathers.  I combined bright lime, green and deep teal together to create a vivid and eye-catching effect on the eyes.  Here’s how to re-create this look:

Light Green and Aqua

This look uses light green, aqua and peachy-brown to create a fresh and spring-like eye.  Applying a violet eyeshadow very lightly along the lower lashline provides a pretty contrast to the spring greens on the upper eyelid.

I used mainly MAC eyeshadows to create this look but you can use any brand of eyeshadow you like which has similar shades.

For this look, I used an amber-caramel toned eyeshadow with medium and deep chocolate browns in the crease to create a warm, soft effect on the eyes.  I used the Urban Decay Vice 3 palette to create this look but you can use any brand of eyeshadow you like which has similar shades.

This look is part of The Chocolate series, which shows how you can experiment with a different lid colour to change up an existing look.  You can find The Chocolate series here.

If you are interested in how these combinations look on other people, then I’d recommend taking a look at @shinebridabeauty on Instagram! @shinebridabeauty tagged me to show she was inspired by The Chocolate Series and re-created the looks on her Instagram page.  It’s so wonderful to see the combinations on someone else.  @shinebridabeauty also uses different products, which that you don’t need the same items to re-create a look.  She also came up with her own extra Chocolate look – Coconut Chocolate – so look out for that one on her Instagram page!

For this look, I combined lemon yellow, apple green and bright teal eyeshadows to create a colourful, tropical eye.  Using black eyeliner along the upper lashline and jet black mascara on the lashes helps to define the eye when using such bright colours on the eyelid.  Here’s how to re-create this look:

Green Patina

MAC Patina is a pretty golden-taupe eyeshadow which can be used alongside a variety of other eyeshadow colours, including greens, golds, browns and even neutral pinks.  Patina is a really interesting shade, as it looks different depending on what other colours you use alongside it.  I chose to bring out the green and brown tones in Patina by pairing it with moss green and deep reddish brown in the crease.  Here’s how to re-create this look:

Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara (Curved Brush)

Today, I am going to introduce you to a recent discovery of mine: Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara with a curved brush.  I used the normal non-curved brush version of this mascara years ago and really liked it.  However, I had completely forgotten about it as there are always so many new exciting mascaras being released which pull me in.  Recently, I noticed there was a curved brush version on the market in the UK. Well, I just had to try it, especially since it was only £5 for a limited time in Superdrug!

For this look, I used shimmery, bright jewel blue on the lid for a pretty flash of colour.  Combining brightly coloured eyeshadows with medium and deep chocolate browns in the crease is one of my favourite ways of wearing colour in a smokey, yet tasteful manner.  I used the Urban Decay Vice 3 palette to create this look but you can use any brand of eyeshadow you like which has similar shades.

This look is part of The Chocolate series, which shows how you can experiment with a different lid colour to change up an existing look.  You can find The Chocolate series here.
